Creating coordination

Clear goals

  • there are almost infinite ways to develop good strategy. But two thinkers I come back to again and again: Donnella Meadows and Sophie Dennis
  • Operationalizing goals using OKRs

and human connection

Sometimes we put too much faith in 'clear processes'. Well, yes, often conflict in organisations and teams is driven by muddy decision making processes or work distribution. And yet I've come to believe that all too often trust and connection are more important for success than any process or role definition - which are still important basics though.

Concrete action

  • Impact mapping can be used in many fields beyond software development. Pretty much any undertaking that's supposed to move a group into action and invite people to join can benefit.
  • Heart of agile - a super-simple structure that can be used as a 'checkup' for one's organisation.
  • MVP, Start small think big, first step
  • Structuring work - an important art. A lot of useful methods were developed especially in software development - User Stories and User Story maps are simple ways of structuring work, such that value is delivered early.
  • Prioritizing - from Eisenhower-Matrix to the backlog, the method depends on your goals. But you can't do without prioritizing.
  • Kanban - because, well, no organisation can take on unlimited amount of work!
